Kitchen Odors can be very strong, especially so with ethnic foods. Even for people who are used to cooking at home, they can be very embarrassing at times. Even so, we love our ethnic food and can’t be satisfied by any other kind. In order for us to cook and eat what we like, here are some ways from Show Me The Curry to help mask and remove some of the odors (or aromas, if you like)!

Absolutely! Whole house air purifiers are becoming popular choices for clean air in every room of your home. These units connect to your home’s existing HVAC system to purify your indoors as you heat, cool, or ventilate your home.
Hi Hetal and Anuja:
Can you please suggest a good food processor for Indian cooking needs. Looking for chopping veggies, making dough, and grinding meat.
Thanks for your response.
To remove kitchen odors, I usually light a candle before the meal preparation and let it run for a few more minutes until after completion of the meal. It is known that lighting a candle (scented or unscented does not matter) helps remove odors. However a scented candle can inject a pleasing smell which is good if guests are about to arrive at your place.
hi Hetal and Anuja,
i tried your tip and believe me my house smells really really nice.
i also wanted to know where did you buy your pinch pot for the salt.
you go girls
you girls really rock
hetal looks stylish, anuja has put on weight. good tips for the smell in the kitchen. can you suggest some tips to erase stains from a white kitchen cabinet and also from the counter tops.
Baking soda. Make a paste with water similar to toothpaste consistency and rub it over the stains. Let it sit for a few minutes and clean it off with a dry rag.
i want to give one easy tip to remove burnt smell from kitchen very easily. take 1 tablespoon of rock salt (or plain salt), spread it out on a small plastic plate and keep it near the stove or anywhere on the kitchen counter. it will remove all smells from the kitchen. change the salt every 2 weeks. you can also keep salt in all rooms to get rid of any unwanted odor or smell.
love your site. keep up the good work.
Thanks Preeti, that sounds great. We are always looking for ways to keep the kitchen area smelling fresh. 🙂
All these above tips are nice. But they only mask the smell. If you close the kitchen door at night in the morning you can still smell the lingering cooking smell.
To completely eliminate the smell use Ionic Air purifier.
When I am cooking, I turn it ON [open the window as well]. This will cut down the smell. But to feel your kitchen morning fresh in the morning leave the Ionic purifier ON at night and you will breath fresh air in morning.
I just could not leave your website before saying that i really enjoyed the quality information you offer to your visitors.
hi hetal and anuja,
i live in studio apt and i dont have exhaust fan in my kitchen this is the tip i have been looking for a long time thank you, i”ll try this today and let u girls know.
Thanks so much for you tips – they’re great! I tried this particular tip just this weekend and it worked a treat! Except I put in everything I could think of in the water-vinegar concoction – cloves, cardamom and cinnamon! Gave off a lovey Christmassy sort of aroma! Thanks again for your ideas.
To eliminate odours in my kitchen I bring a pot of water and vinegar to a boil and let it simmer for about an hour. If the scent is on cutting boards, I soak it with lemon juice, sprinkle alot of baking soda over the top and let sit over night. Wash the next day with a scrubber and hot water. Put in an area where it will dry naturally, outside…Copper Sinks
Just a thought..the easiest way would be using a kitchen fragrance spray from BBW.
Hi Hetal and Anuja,
These are great ideas. I live in a condo and I stay away from certain types of cooking, like frying, mainly because of the smell. The smell for some of the food, especially, the ones that require cooking mustard in oil, lingers for a few days even after cooking. I have tried the incense sticks but they are not as efficient.
I already did one. Just want to know if u recieved it. It was about the coconut. though simple…it surely is a life saver for those who dont know abt it.
Pl acknowledge this post…
We did get your tip for coconuts. Thank you so much. We will be starting our new season of filming sometime next month so we will definitely get to it. Thanks again!
Hi hetal didi,
