When you’re frying, its always a good idea to have multiple things to fry so you don’t waste as much oil. Try this Quick Snacks recipe…all you need is uncooked tortillas.

  1. I made this with Corn tortillas(my son has wheat allergies..so can’t use flour tortillas) and sprinkled pd sugar and cinnamon(I pd them together at home) when they were still warm. They are yummmmmmmyyyy. Thanks to the viewer poorni and hetal:) for the tip.

    I just made these with Corn Tortillas. They have come out awesome. I actually dusted Powdered sugar and pd cinnamon on it when it was warm. Awesome and easy sweet for my kids.

    I live in atlanta and was lucky enough to find uncooked tortilla. It was smaller than yours, mine was soft taco size. I just fried it and it came out really good. My family loved it. I am going to try milk cake now. Let see how that comes out!! Thank you.

    1. Hi YG,

      They will remain crispy for weeks if you have fried them properly (low flame, until completely dried out). Be sure to store them in an container with a tight fitting lid.

  6. This was a really great quick trick to make the snack. Just a small add-on.. after frying you can put them in sugar syrup and take out after a while. It will create a very crunchy sweet snacks with sugar coating on it

    I wana tell u a bad thing i made one of your recipe a panjabi snack recipe,made with besan and yoghurt i cannot reollect recipe name i had vomitting after that my husdband also had the same he had severe vomitting plz kindly delete that recipe its a request

      Sorry to hear your story 🙁 Hope you are doing OK now!
      Any dish that we make, we consume! If it was not OK for us, there is NO WAY we would EVER release a video. Having said that – firstly, we can only think of Punjabi Kadhi that has besan and yogurt and that is one dish we have made time and again. Secondly, by the sound of what you have described, food-poising is what comes to our mind. That could be because of the yogurt (milk products do tend to spoil faster) and besan does not spoil.
      Hope you get a fresh batch of yogurt and not use the same for anything else.

  9. Hello I was watching the quick snack that you made, we call it in the Hispanic community Sopapillas, we do it with sugar or cinnamon or both and or add honey to them.

      We have not tried baking the uncooked tortillas, but if you do try it, you may want to spray them with a little oil before baking.

      Olive oil is great for your normal day to day cooking (if you don’t mind the sharp flavor). However, the smoking point for olive oil is a little low for deep frying. Canola, corn or peanut oils are better for deep frying.

  10. while this is an easy way to make a quick snack, all of you out there, you shouldn’t be reusing preused(fried) oil. It turns into trans fat after it has smoked at high temperature.

    1. That was precisely the point we were trying to get across. We suggested making these quick snacks when you have other frying to do so you get more use out of your oil and don’t waste the oil. We are not suggesting re-using oil once it has cooled down. In fact, we mention the same thing at the end of the video.

      You can definitely use cooked tortillas, but they will not be as light as the uncooked ones…they are a bit dense. We sometimes fry cooked tortillas as papdi for papdi chat. They hold up really well.

      We’ve tried making samosa with tortilla but were not entirely happy with the results. We do have samosa from scratch coming soon!

    Thanks for this nice and easy recipe. Can we make this recipe with homemade chapati insead of uncooked tortillas?

    1. Hi Sumon,

      Yes, you can. If you use all-purpose flour instead of wheat flour, they will be namak pare. You do have to put a little extra oil in the dough.

    This reminds me very much of papdi chat. Can it be used that way? or should we follow some other recipe for that?

      These are very light so may not hold up for papdi chat. They would be great in bhel. Try to fry the cooked tortillas for papdi chat…they work better.

  18. Thanks for posting a quick no mess recipe! Now we can have homemade papdi chaat in minutes. the store bought snacks r sometimes too thick,sometimes they taste raw but with SMTC there is a solution to every problem.But i doubt if uncooked tortillas r available here in Vancouver,Canada.

    Please post recipe for making matri or papdi (the traditional way)

      Don’t take me wrong for replying to ur comment. Making papdi at home is very easy. This way you can save lots of dollars also can feel healthy.
      Heat butter or dalda approx 2 tbsp and when it is at smoking point take out and mix it in 1 cup of all purpose flour(maida). Add water, salt and mix well. Leave the dough rest for 5 to 10 mins, then roll into circle shape like roti(chapati) and cut it into small roundles using a small cutter. To avoid papdi to blow up use fork and make marks on papdi.

      I’m also from Vancouver, and I go across the border to purchase the uncooked tortillas. I’ve seen them at Fred Meyer and Costco in Bellingham, Washington. Hope that helps!
